Article from El faro de Ceuta:

Ceuta dressed up this Saturday to host the 8th round of the XIV Interclubs del Estrecho Championship. With a participation of around 25 boats and 150 sailors, the day turned into a real party for sailing enthusiasts.

With a joint start for all categories, a coastal course was sailed in the southern bay of the autonomous city with the Piedra del Pineo as the emblematic passing place for all the boats. ORC A and B categories sailed a total of 10.5 miles and Club and Reduced categories a little over 6.2 miles. The Ceutíes were first-hand witnesses from the coastline of the city of Ceuta.

Ceuta Marina Hércules (Club de Vela Vendaval) with a crew formed by the Guardia Civil and skippered by Sergio Llorca won the ORC A category.

In ORC B, Paul Chimene (RCM Sotogrande) won, with Philipe Vigneron at the helm, while in ORC Club and Reduced the winners were Carol May (RGYC) skippered by James Coelho and Senador II (RCN La Línea), with Agustin Villar at the helm, respectively.

The weather conditions, with unstable westerly winds between 10 and 15 knots added an extra touch of excitement to the competition, with skippers having to keep an eye on the roles on the race course.

With this competition, the Interclubs del Estrecho Championship continues to demonstrate its importance as a reference point for sailing in the Strait of Gibraltar. The next and last race will be held on September 9th at the Club Marítimo Linense, where the final champions in each category will be announced.

The organisers thanked once again the attendees of all the events of the Nautical Week for their participation and presented the various trophies in the presence of Niccola Cechi, President of the Vendaval Sailing Club and Councillor for Trade, Tourism, Employment and Sport, the Naval Commander of Ceuta Millán Leira, the Chief Lieutenant Colonel of the Civil Guard Command in Ceuta José María Jiménez Gutiérrez, the Director of the Functional Area of Development Diego Martínez Arguello, and the Manager of Marina Hércules Puerto Deportivo de Ceuta Mehdi Amin.
